Class 3 DSC for MCA in Bangalore: Complete Guide for Directors & Companies (2026)

Everything Bangalore directors, LLP partners and company secretaries need to know about Class 3 DSC for MCA / ROC filings — DIN, DIR-3 KYC, incorporation, annual filings and renewal.

If you are a director, LLP partner, or company secretary in Bangalore, a Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate is not optional — the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA / MCA21 V3 portal) accepts only Class 3 DSCs for signing e-forms, incorporating companies, filing annual returns, and completing DIR-3 KYC. This is the pillar guide for how it works, what to buy, and how to stay compliant.

This article pairs with our broader Class 3 DSC in Bangalore guide — read that first for the fundamentals, then come back here for the MCA-specific workflow.

Why MCA requires Class 3 DSC

Since the CCA discontinued Class 2 issuance in January 2021, every DSC issued in India is Class 3. The MCA21 portal, which handles all Registrar of Companies (ROC) filings, only accepts Class 3 Individual DSCs registered against a DIN (Director Identification Number) or PAN. Organisation DSCs are not used for MCA e-form signing — the DSC must be in the individual signatory's name.

Who needs a Class 3 DSC for MCA?

  • Directors of Private Limited and Public Limited Companies
  • Designated Partners of LLPs
  • Company Secretaries certifying MCA e-forms
  • Chartered Accountants and Cost Accountants signing MCA filings
  • Promoters incorporating a new company or LLP
  • Foreign directors or NRIs on Indian company boards

MCA filings that require a Class 3 DSC

  • SPICe+ (INC-32) — company incorporation
  • FiLLiP — LLP incorporation
  • DIR-3 — DIN application
  • DIR-3 KYC — annual director KYC (due 30 September every year)
  • AOC-4 — filing of financial statements
  • MGT-7 / MGT-7A — annual return
  • ADT-1 — auditor appointment
  • DPT-3 — return of deposits
  • DIR-12 — director appointment or resignation
  • PAS-3 — allotment of shares
  • Form 8 and Form 11 — LLP annual filings

Step-by-step: registering your Class 3 DSC on MCA21

  1. Buy a Class 3 Individual DSC with PAN and Aadhaar-based e-KYC (2-year validity is standard).
  2. Install the USB token driver (ePass 2003, ProxKey, WatchData or HYP2003) and the associated crypto middleware on your machine.
  3. Log in to www.mca.gov.in with your MCA user ID.
  4. Go to MCA Services → FO Services → Associate DSC. Choose 'Role Check' — Director, Manager/Secretary/CEO/CFO, Practising Professional, or Nodal Officer as applicable.
  5. Enter your DIN (or PAN for professionals), attach the DSC via the USB token, and enter the token PIN.
  6. Submit. The DSC is now mapped to your MCA identity and can sign e-forms.
  7. Re-associate the DSC every time you renew — MCA does not auto-carry the previous mapping.

What documents do you need to buy the DSC?

  • PAN card (mandatory — DSC is issued in the PAN name)
  • Aadhaar with a mobile number linked for OTP
  • Passport-size photograph
  • Recent utility bill or address proof (for a few CAs)
  • For NRIs / foreign directors: passport, apostilled address proof, visa page

How long does MCA DSC issuance take in Bangalore?

For Indian residents walking in to our Nagavara office with PAN, an Aadhaar-linked mobile, and 10 minutes for the video verification, the Class 3 DSC is issued within the hour. Foreign directors and NRI signatories take 2–4 working days because of the apostille / attestation checks.

DIR-3 KYC — the filing that catches most directors off-guard

Every DIN holder as of 31 March must file DIR-3 KYC by 30 September of the same year. Miss it and your DIN is marked 'Deactivated due to non-filing of DIR-3 KYC' and a ₹5,000 late fee is charged to reactivate. The form is signed with your Class 3 DSC, so an expired DSC in August is the single most common reason directors miss the deadline. Renew in July if your certificate expires between July and October.

How does Class 3 DSC for MCA differ from GST or Income Tax?

The certificate itself is identical — a Class 3 Individual DSC on a FIPS 140-2 Level 2 USB token. What differs is registration: MCA needs Role Check + DIN mapping, GST needs PAN-based DSC registration on the GST portal, and Income Tax needs registration under 'My Profile → Register DSC'. One certificate, three separate registrations. See our Digital Signature for GST Registration guide for the GST side.

USB token requirements for MCA

MCA21 V3 will only accept DSCs stored on a FIPS-compliant token — soft certificates (files on your laptop) are not permitted. Approved tokens include ePass 2003 Auto, ProxKey, WatchData ProxKey, HYP2003 and Trust Key. Read our dedicated Class 3 DSC USB token comparison guide for a full checklist before you buy.

Common mistakes we see with MCA DSCs in Bangalore

  • Buying an Organisation DSC and trying to use it for director filings — MCA rejects it.
  • Name mismatch between PAN, DIN, and DSC — even a middle-initial difference triggers rejection.
  • Letting the DSC expire before DIR-3 KYC — deactivated DIN + ₹5,000 fee.
  • Forgetting to re-associate the renewed DSC on MCA21 — signing then silently fails.
  • Using outdated emBridge / DSC utility versions that don't support MCA21 V3.

Is a Class 3 DSC mandatory for every director?

Yes. Every director signing any MCA e-form must hold an active Class 3 DSC. Even a dormant company filing NIL returns needs at least one director DSC and one professional DSC on every filing.

How much does a Class 3 DSC for MCA cost in Bangalore?

Standard Class 3 Individual DSC with USB token for 2 years starts at market-competitive rates — see our pricing page for current numbers. Foreign / NRI DSCs are priced higher because of the additional verification workload.

Can I file MCA forms without going to an office?

Yes. Once your DSC is issued and mapped, you can sign and upload e-forms from anywhere with the USB token plugged into your machine. What you cannot do fully online is the initial issuance — video verification is mandatory, and for a walk-in in Bangalore we get you out in an hour.
