DSC Reissuance vs Renewal: Which One Do You Need?
The practical difference between renewing a DSC at expiry and reissuing one mid-cycle — cost, timing and the specific situations that force reissuance.
"Renew" and "reissue" get used interchangeably, but they are different products with different timing and different documentation.
Renewal
Applies at expiry (or up to 30 days before). Re-runs Aadhaar e-KYC + video verification. Your personal details (name, PAN, address, mobile) stay the same. Certificate is issued with a fresh validity period, loaded onto the same token or a new one.
Reissuance
Applies mid-cycle when something changed — name change (marriage, deed poll), PAN correction, DGFT / EKU requirement added, USB token lost or locked, or a role change like moving from proprietor to director where the DSC purpose needs adjustment.
Cost comparison
- Renewal at expiry: full fee, but no token cost if you keep the old one.
- Reissuance mid-cycle: full fee, plus token cost if the original is locked / lost.
- Balance-of-validity credit is not offered by any Indian Certifying Authority — reissuance is a new certificate at full price.
Which do you need?
If the certificate is within 30 days of expiry — renewal. Otherwise, if any personal detail or purpose has changed, reissuance. If nothing has changed and the certificate is still valid, no action needed.
See the DSC Renewal service page in Bangalore for turnaround and pricing.
